Reasons Outdoor Solar Light Not Working and How to Fix?

There are several possible problems that you need to check before you pinpoint and fix the issue.

        1. There Is ON/OFF Button & It’s not turned ON

Most of the outdoor solar garden lights come with ON/OFF button, and that button needs to be turned ON. In many cases this simple thing is ignored by many people and this is one of the main reasons why your solar light isn’t working as expected. There might also be a factory defect and the light doesn’t turning ON.

        2. There Is a Pull Button and You Ignored It

Some lights comes with a pull button on the battery and it need to be removed before you turned on the light. This one is for the newly purchased items only. So if you just bought a new solar light and if it’s not working, you definitely should check this out.

        3. Test If the Sensor Is Working or Not

Solar lights don’t work during day time, in order to check them during day time you need to simulate darkness. Most solar lights have a little sensor to check darkness. Make sure you check them during the night time and/or simulate the darkness by covering the sensor with your hand, cloth or something, after covering it if the light turn ON, then its fine. If they don’t, then solar light battery needs to be changed.

        4. Make Sure the Solar Panel Is Clean and Working

After installing the light in your outdoor garden, later they tend to get dirty; you will notice reduced lighting time. Thus you need to make sure that panel is clean and don’t have dust or anything. For that reason it’s a good idea to clean your panel every now and then and put it at a safe place when not in use i.e. rainy or winter season. Dust and other accumulated residues can very much affect the charging process. That might cover solar panel and block the sunlight.

        5. Ensure Your Solar Light Getting Direct Sun Light

If solar panel not getting the required sun light than the LED won’t work or can’t produce the brightest light as you would have expected. Make sure you place your light at a location where it gets direct sun light. Normally a solar light should get 4-5 hours daily direct sun light to effectively charge the batteries and shine brightly during night hours.

        6. Test the Lights with Alkaline (Regular) Batteries

Most newly purchased solar lights come with rechargeable batteries. After their normal life span (typical couple of years) they tend to stop working or start performing poorly. If you see declined brightness in light, then it’s a time to change the batteries. But before you buy new rechargeable batteries test the solar light by putting alkaline battery (regular batteries).

Only use the alkaline batteries to test the solar lights, do not leave them in your lights because alkaline batteries are not rechargeable.

        7. Charge the batteries for one day

To get the best from your newly purchased solar light, let the batteries fully charge for the first time before switch them ON. Place the light at proper location, make sure you switch them OFF so that they get fully recharge, wait for 24 hours and start using them.

Last but not least, In case the above listed fixes not work for you, feel free to contact the vendor and get it fixed or replaced.

        To wrap it up

Most home owners and gardeners get exhausted and frustrated with why their solar lights not working at all or not brightest as it should be. But before you give up, take time and go through the steps mentioned above first and see what you’re lacking or missing.

Now you know that there are ways to correct them. So get your hands dirty and start fixing your outdoor solar lights.

How Solar Powered Security Lights Works?

These smart lights use solar panels (either integrated or separate) to gather sunlight and charge batteries that power the LED lights at evening.

The solar panel should be to be accessible to the direct Sunlight to soak up the energy from the Sun, in order to light-up during the night hours. Before installing the solar light place it in the areas you would like to have lit up (if solar panel is integrated make sure to put it at a place that gets direct sunlight). Most solar lights requires approximately 8-10 hours to fully charge, some may need more in order to give off light during the whole night.

Before anything else, solar technology is an economical and reliable means to sustain electricity needs for commercial establishments. Its implication to solar security lights is undeniable due to its efficiency. In fact, it only needs the sun’s rays which is later on converted into electricity to power up security lights during dark hours.

Furthermore, this solar power lighting works well in tandem with motion sensor technology. Thus, security level is heightened by detecting trespassers’ movements during off-working hours.

How to Design a Home Alarm System?

Step1: Determine what your home security needs are, both inside and out

Step 2 Secure your doors and windows, even garage
Step 3 Determine your lighting needs. Would an outdoor motion-sensing light benefit you? If so, determine where one could best be placed to protect your home.
Step 4 Determine which doors and windows you need sensors for. Typically this will be your front and back doors, first-floor and basement windows and any other windows that could be easily accessed by someone trying to break in.

Step 5 Choose a location for a keypad to arm and disarm your system.

Step 6 Determine your wiring needs. What will it take to power up your keypad and keep the sensors in communication with the monitoring system?

Step 7 Determine where any surveillance cameras should be placed.

Step 8 Determine where any motion detectors should be installed.

How Does a Home Alarm System Work?

The purpose of a home alarm system is to alert homeowners, and sometimes police, to unauthorized entry attempts into their homes. When the alarm is triggered, it emits a loud sound designed to frighten away intruders. An optional monitoring system can be tied to your home alarm that alerts a third-party monitoring vendor to contact the appropriate authorities. The home alarm is composed of a central processing unit and remote sensors.

The central processing unit, or brain box, is the user's interface into the system. It allows users to turn the device on and off, disable or enable certain sections of the home and it automatically contacts optional third- party monitoring vendors. It also communicates with the remote sensors. Most systems have three types of remote sensors.

The most common remote sensor is the magnetic switch. These are usually found on doors and sometimes windows. They are separated into two parts. The smaller magnet is attached to the door. The larger switch is attached just above it on the door frame. The magnet holds the switch in place. When the door is opened, the magnet moves away. The switch is no longer held in place and the alarm is triggered.

Another common remote sensor is the infrared motion detector. This device detects the movement of objects that emit heat energy. A ball rolling on the floor will not trigger the alarm because the ball does not emit heat. A person does emit heat and will trigger the alarm if he moves. Many infrared motion detectors can be tuned to ignore smaller heat signatures. This can be useful if you have pets.

The third most common remote sensor is the glass sensor. These are commonly placed on windows. They detect the vibrations and sound frequencies of breaking glass. Glass sensors provide extra protection for windows that can be broken and crawled through without opening.

Other devices, such as smoke detectors, flood detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and temperature detectors can also be added to most home alarm systems. These devices can give homeowners and authorities early warnings to environmental threats.

        How to Program Home Alarms?

        Step 1

Learn to turn the alarm on and off. This is the primary function you will be using and is also the most important. You cannot protect your home without turning it on and cannot disarm a mistake without knowing how to turn it off. Search your instructions for how to perform this.

        Step 2

Select a password to disarm the alarm. Most alarms give you a grace period after walking into a door to disarm. Choose a password that can be quickly entered onto the keypad and can be remembered by all members of your family. Don’t choose something common like your house number or phone number, as this will make it possible for intruders to guess your password.

        Step 3

Determine what aspects of your home you want protected. Most advanced alarms will give you the option to secure several areas of your home. Decide whether you want just your doors armed or more. Many alarms give you the option of arming windows and upper stories with security as well.

        Step 4

Set your fire alarms to be in sync with the home alarm. One great aspect of home alarms are the ability to contact the fire department when the fire alarm goes off. This can save your home while you are away and may save lives while you are there.

        Step 5

Find out who you should contact if the alarm is set off by mistake. Nobody is perfect and often people will accidentally set off alarms. Every company has a phone number to call in order to make sure authorities are not sent to your house when they are not needed.
